Imam Dhamarullah
English Teacher and TESOL Specialist
ABOUT
Hello, I'm Imam (he/him), a TESOL specialist based in Indonesia. I began my professional career as an English teacher in 2016. Since then, I have honed my pedagogical competence through interactions with EFL/ESL learners and teachers. My approach to teaching is reflective and intuitive: I like to sit down and analyse the learning needs and the big picture before deciding on a set of measurable objectives and the most effective ways to achieve them. As an ESL speaker myself, I value compassion and strive to create a safe and welcoming space in my class.
I completed a master's degree in TESOL at the University of Sydney in 2024 after receiving a full scholarship from the Indonesian government. During this time, I also refined my teaching philosophy, which was influenced by socio-constructivism. I firmly believe that we all learn from each other and that everyone can succeed when they are provided with the necessary support. My research interests include TESOL methodology, discourse analysis, and ESL/EFL teacher professional development.

Using Padlet to Enforce Process Writing
AbstractThis paper presents an action research project that delved into the use of Padlet as a writing medium in asynchronous learning. Initial observations revealed a challenge: Students in an online class (n = 2) struggled with producing complete paragraphs. To address this, I implemented a process writing approach, guiding participants in exploring their ideas, developing drafts, and evaluating their work. Data was collected from observation notes throughout the term and a questionnaire at the project's end. The findings unveiled a positive perception of process writing through Padlet among participants. The paper further discusses the implications of using Padlet for teaching. Keywords: Padlet, process writing, online class, asynchronous learning, TESOL
Promoting Interactional Talk Using Word Sneak
AbstractThis action research aimed to see if Word Sneak game was effective in improving the studentsā speaking skills and promoting interactional talk, which is the type of talk that concerns building and maintaining relationship between people. Seven students participated during four meetings of the treatment and were observed based on fifteen criteria of speaking sub-skills and strategies. Other data collection instruments include a pre-test, a post-test, an interview, and a questionnaire. The result showed that there was an improvement in their speaking skill, particularly in fluency. Students spoke more confidently and they were able to maintain an interactional conversation and expand it by initiating various topics. Based on the questionnaire results, they also felt very positive about the game. Keywords: speaking, interactional talk, english game
